This is my first post about the adventures we are about to kick-off. I have been toying with this idea that I want to explore my little world of Gauteng. At least once a week, I commit to go to a restaurant, attend a concert, visit a museum or just have an ice cream. Whilst doing it, I will document the experience in my own words. Try and find the good in everything. From time to time, I may post more random posts not directly related to 100 Weeks, but promise to be upbeat, positive and inspiring. This blog is about uncovering the joys in life and to be a better, happier and more sincere human being.
For now, I have listed 61 things that we are planning to do. So over time, things may change a little, new things may come about or somethings may go out of business, so this is a working list.
Now for a little bit of facts (plagiarised from Wikipedia of course):
Gauteng (/ɡɔːˈtɛŋ/; Sotho pronunciation [xɑ́úˈtʼèŋ̀]), which means “place of gold”, is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. It was formed from part of the old Transvaal Province after South Africa’s first all-race elections on 27 April 1994. It was initially named Pretoria–Witwatersrand–Vereeniging (PWV) and was renamed “Gauteng” in December 1994.
Situated in the Highveld, Gauteng is the smallest province in South Africa, accounting for only 1.5% of the land area. Nevertheless, it is highly urbanised, containing the country’s largest city, Johannesburg, its administrative capital, Pretoria, and other large industrial areas such as Midrand and Vanderbijlpark. As of 2015, it has a population of nearly 13.2 million, making it the most populous province in South Africa.
Every week, we hope to do something, post it and then make you aware of it. So subscribe to our mailing list or follow us on Instagram. In time we will be posting photos, videos and a written piece to go into more detail.
I love this place. Joburg and Pretoria have evolved into two personalities. They are siblings, close to one another, but have contrasting traits that will give you two uniquely different views of the world. I aim to uncover what they are, what there is to appreciate and along the way, get to know a little more about how I fit into that space.
I have committed to doing this. Werner, my boyfriend, just as excited as I am will also be part of this journey. However, I would like to invite you with. You are welcome to send me your info and I will add you to the WhatsApp group to tag along and be documented as part of the experience.
